This past weekend, I embarked on a project that I found quite exciting. The WordPress Community is teeming with developers, and while some of them dabble in design, there is a noticeable shortage of dedicated designers. For years, users have been expected to take on the role of designer themselves, as more tools have been introduced to allow extensive customization of themes through the site editor.

I wanted to challenge this norm and leverage the power of design AIs to create additional design resources for the community. It seemed logical to begin by extending the default themes, as they are already widely used and provide a solid foundation. Using Huemint, I generated a variety of new dark color schemes for Twenty Twenty Four and bundled them into a neat little child theme. I thought it was an innovative idea that worked exceptionally well.

However, the theme review team had a different perspective. They considered my changes “too minor” to be accepted into the directory. Though the outcome was disappointing, that’s simply the nature of the process.

Below, I’ll include a few videos showcasing the Dark Mode and Pastel child themes I created. Even if they never see the light of day, I’ll still be able to utilize them for my own content 🙂 .
