As the “WordPress guy,” I’m often asked to help create websites for various projects, from my dad’s pizza shop to the National Native American Law Students Association during my college years. Through these experiences, I’ve built countless websites and have come to a realization about a new AI-powered layout tool being developed for WordPress. While the tool works well and produces fine results, it suffers from a fatal flaw: it solves the wrong problem.

The biggest challenge in creating a website isn’t the layout or theme. Although it would be nice to find a theme with a unique layout or color scheme, these factors aren’t significant enough to derail an entire project or cause the greatest hassle. The most difficult aspect of building a website is creating the content.

Building a website is like buying a beautifully staged house. Once you move in with all your belongings, it doesn’t look as pristine as it did before. When I created websites for my dad, I spent more time and money searching for stock photos to fill the gaps in the theme than on anything else.

By focusing on tools that prioritize layout and design, we are acting like architects rather than homeowners. While a homeowner might prefer a larger kitchen or a different house color, they couldn’t live without furniture. The furniture is what I believe we should focus on, and it’s where AI can truly shine.

Imagine an interactive tool that engages in conversation with you, asks pertinent questions, and by the end of the discussion, all your image slots are filled, and your website’s text is completely written. This is a powerful concept and something that people genuinely need.
