Revolutionizing WordPress: The Untapped Potential Of Plugin And Theme Curation

Curation is a topic I’m incredibly passionate about. Seven years ago, after leaving Automattic, one of my first projects was to create a way for users to add their own curated list of plugins to their WordPress dashboard. I wonder if the code is still functional – you can check it out here. Looking back, it’s crazy that I actually did that. I was so broke at the time, like “surviving on ramen noodles” level broke.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that core WordPress development likely won’t prioritize curation, so it’s time for the community to take the lead. I firmly believe that curating the plugin and theme repositories is more crucial than any core feature or third-party plugin.

Revolutionizing WordPress: The Untapped Potential Of Plugin And Theme Curation

I pitched this idea to the Jetpack team, but they didn’t quite share my vision. So, the idea is up for grabs. I don’t mind who takes it on, but someone needs to step up. Trust me, your users will be grateful for it.

Imagine the possibilities: you spin up a new WordPress site, and instead of feeling overwhelmed and unsure about which themes or plugins to use, your friends at [insert service here] have all the answers ready for you. No more scouring outdated blogs or trying out countless options that don’t work. You’ll provide them with the solutions they need. Just thinking about it gives me chills.
