Seven years ago, after leaving Automattic, I built a way for users to add a curated plugin list to their WordPress dashboard. I don’t know if the code still works, but it’s here. I was so broke at the time. Surviving on ramen noodles broke.
I don’t expect curation to become a core WordPress priority, so I’d like someone in the community to take it on. I think helping people find good themes and plugins matters more than another core feature or plugin.
I pitched this to the Jetpack team, but they weren’t interested. The idea is up for grabs. I don’t mind who does it.
When someone starts a WordPress site, their host or another service they trust could recommend themes and plugins that fit what they’re doing. That would save them digging through outdated posts and installing things that don’t work for them.
